4 Day Snæfellsnes & South Coast Summer Tour

Best Seller!
West to South Tour
Iceland In a Nutshell

Tour Description

This multi-day journey covers Iceland’s most significant landmarks across the West, South, and the Golden Circle. Key highlights include the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, often called "Iceland in a Miniature," the erupting Geysir geothermal area, and the massive Gullfoss waterfall. You will walk through Thingvellir National Park, visit the Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, and see the Reynisfjara black sand beach. The tour concludes with the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and the vast ice fields of Vatnajökull National Park.

This guided multi-day tour is designed for travelers who want to see Iceland’s diverse landscapes in one organized trip. We provide transport and expert guidance, starting with Western Iceland and the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. This area is famous for its varied geology, including the Snæfellsjökull glacier-volcano, volcanic craters, and moss-covered lava fields. It is an ideal introduction to the country’s volcanic history.

The itinerary continues to the Golden Circle, the most popular sightseeing route in Iceland. You will visit Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site where two tectonic plates meet. You will also see the Geysir hot spring area, where the Strokkur geyser erupts every few minutes, and Gullfoss, a large waterfall on the Hvítá river.

Next, the tour travels along the South Coast. This region is known for its dramatic coastline and tall waterfalls. You will visit Seljalandsfoss, where a path allows you to walk behind the falling water, and Skógafoss, located near the village of Skógar. Further east, you will reach the Reynisfjara black sand beach, known for its dark volcanic sand and basalt columns.

The final portion of the trip focuses on Vatnajökull National Park, home to Europe’s largest glacier. A major stop is the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, where large icebergs float toward the Atlantic Ocean. You have the option to add a boat tour here to see the ice up close. The journey offers a practical way to reach these remote locations, which are located several hours' drive from the capital, Reykjavik. All logistics are handled to ensure a steady pace through Iceland's natural environment.

Map and Itinerary

Day 1: The Golden Circle

Day 1 is dedicated to exploring the legendary Golden Circle route. Your guide will pick you up at your designated pickup location to visit the three primary attractions. You will start at Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site where you can stand directly between the separating North American and Eurasian tectonic plates and explore the site of Iceland's first parliament. Next, you will visit the Haukadalur Geothermal Area to witness the famous Strokkur geyser erupting every few minutes. The final stop on the route is the majestic Gullfoss Waterfall, where you can see the powerful glacial river plunge down a deep canyon.

Please note: The itinerary is subject to change due to weather, road conditions, and availability of activities. Your guide will always ensure the best and safest experience possible.

1

Meeting and greeting from Reykjavik

The tour departs at 8:00 AM from Reykjavík. After pickup, we board our comfortable minibus and head east out of the city. As we drive through the scenic countryside, your guide will share stories about Iceland’s history, culture, and unique geology—setting the tone for the adventure ahead.

Please note: The itinerary is subject to change due to weather, road conditions, and availability of activities. Your guide will always ensure the best and safest experience possible.

2

Thingvellir National Park

We visit Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site where you can stand directly between the separating North American and Eurasian tectonic plates—an exceptional geological phenomenon. This park is also a cornerstone of Icelandic history, as it was the original location of the national parliament founded in 930 AD.

3

Bruarfoss Waterfall

Often considered a hidden gem within Iceland's breathtaking landscapes, Brúarfoss is famous as "Iceland's Bluest Waterfall."

While it may be smaller than other famous cascades, its unique beauty lies in the serenity of its setting. The silky, sapphire-blue waters create a surreal landscape as they cascade over dark lava rocks. This vibrant blue stands in stunning contrast to the surrounding black rock and the bright green moss, making it a picturesque location perfect for nature lovers and photographers seeking to explore Iceland's untouched wilderness.

4

Geysir Geothermal Area

Explore the vibrant Haukadalur Geothermal Area, where the famous Strokkur geyser erupts spectacularly every 5 minutes, shooting water up to 35 meters. This stop highlights Iceland's raw energy and is named after the now-dormant Great Geysir, which gave its name to all geysers worldwide.

5

Gullfoss Waterfall

The final stop on the Golden Circle is the majestic Gullfoss ("Golden Waterfall"), formed by the glacial meltwater of Langjökull, Iceland’s second-largest glacier. Here, you'll witness the powerful river plunging into a deep canyon and, on clear days, can often capture a spectacular photo of a rainbow in the mist.

6

Seljalandsfoss Waterfall

Our next stop is the stunning Seljalandsfoss waterfall. You can walk behind the cascade for a one-of-a-kind view. Just bring a rain jacket! The roar of the water and shimmering mist make this an unforgettable experience.

7

Included Activity: Glacier Hike in Sólheimajökull

Next, we meet our certified glacier guide for an unforgettable adventure on the ice. After gearing up with helmets, crampons, and ice axes, we’ll step onto the glacier, an ever-changing world of blue ice, deep crevasses, and frozen sculptures. If weather or safety factors prevent hiking at one glacier, the tour may instead take place at another beautiful and suitable glacier.

8

Accommodation: Hrífunes Hotel By Troll.is (or Similar) with Breakfast

After a day exploring Iceland’s South Coast, we’ll spend the night in a comfortable countryside hotel in the same area, typically Hotel Drangshlíð or a similar option. The location offers easy access to the next day’s activities and is ideally situated for Northern Lights viewing during the winter months, far from city lights.
